that's what she said...

"Wow! We are absolutely blown away by our wedding photo collection. Karen truly captured every moment, smile, crazy dance move, and emotion from that day. From our initial meeting to our engagement session, wedding timeline meeting to our wedding day... Her calm and supportive presence made us feel so comfortable. It felt like she was part of the family- and we both recognize how special that is. - Lauren
the values
I believe in bringing to life authentic moments that will induce nostalgia 30 years from now. I am committed to giving my absolute best, and for me the nerdy magic formula is creativity, flexibility, dedication, enthusiasm, continued education, organization, and technical proficiency. I recognize that your wedding day is one of the most important events of your life, and that you are not only trusting me to document memories you can't get back, but also to be one of the select few people you give the honor of being present during these moments. It means so much to me to be trusted with some of your most personal and important memories and I don't take that responsibility lightly.
the vibes
On your wedding day, I am there for YOU. Your wedding should feel relaxed and fun, and I will do everything in my power to help make that happen. I will help you find your shoes, cry during the mother- son dance, fluff your dress (or straighten your jacket) and take a victory shot with you at the end of the night haha. During our time together both before, during and after your wedding day, you will know without a doubt that I care about your wedding as much as you do.
the visual aesthetic
Some photographers pride themselves on providing fly-on-the-wall documentation of moments, and some are more concerned with posing and styling details to make things look fine art and flattering. I don't believe these two styles need to be mutually exclusive. I want you to experience all the moments, but also have a little help posing so you know the answer to "what do I do with my hands?" My approach to photography is a combination of expertise and artistry. My goal is to both creatively document the once-in-a-lifetime moments and personal details, and help guide you in the planning process and on the day of your wedding, so that you will be able to be completely present, look amazing, and have FUN.

FAQ
Do You Travel?
Absolutely! There may be travel fees for locations 2+ hours from my studio.

Do You Have Insurance?
Yep, I am fully insured!

Is this your full-time job?
Yes, I have been shooting weddings full time for 7 years now.

What is your shooting style?
I use the words authentic and eclectic to describe my style. "Authentic" because my goal is to take photos that are emotive and transport you back to a moment. I want to document your day in a way that captures *your* style and personalities and the emotions of the event. "Eclectic" because I draw inspiration from many different photography styles: I mix fine-art detail styling with flattering and romantic posing with the story-telling style of a journalistic approach. I also help you plan your day and take a very client-centered perspective by connecting with you and understanding your preferences and what makes your day unique. I work with natural light, shadow and flash to properly and creatively illuminate my subjects so that the photos look both artistic and flattering.

How would you describe your Editing style?
I edit purposely to create the most accurate color tones. My goal is for the photos to show what things actually looked like, which means I avoid popular editing trends that we all might regret ten years from now (which I can personally vouch for as a bride because some of my own wedding photos from 2008 are edited in sepia and using selective color- yikes LOL). Along those lines, I also don't really fall into the categories of "light and airy" or "moody" editing, I just want the photos to be beautiful with accurate natural tones.

are you LGBTQ+ friendly?
Absolutely. Inclusion is important to me, diversity is celebrated, love is love.
Do we need a second photographer?
Maybe. Let's chat about the logistics of your wedding day and your photography preferences and I will help you decide.
Some factors that make a second photographer necessary are: more than one location, large bridal party or family.

When will I Get My Photos?
I deliver/post sneak peeks within a week after your wedding or session.
For the final gallery, the average turnaround is 1-2 weeks for engagements & portraits, 6-8 weeks for weddings.

What is a "print credit"?
You get the digital photos with a print release to print your photos anywhere you want, but why pay thousands for me to take and carefully edit your photos only to have some teenager in Walmart print them via a crappy machine? I want you to have the opportunity to get professional prints or wall art, so I include a credit to buy pro products in all of my packages. When you see the difference, you will understand why ;)

CAN YOU PHOTOSHOP MY BUTT TO LOOK LIKE KIM KARDASHIAN'S?
Yes and no. Yes, I use flattering posing, careful use of angles and meticulous editing to help you look like the best version of yourself. That said, I value self-love, body positivity and authenticity, and you should too (especially if you hired me)! That means if your butt doesn't already look like Kim K's, it probably won't look like it in your edited photos, either, but that is ok, because I am quite certain your butt is amazing already lol! In all seriousness though: I don't typically do extensive editing to change things that make you you because I like you the way you are. Things like color correction and small blemish removal are included, but things like digitally altering your body shape are not. However if it is something you desperately want, it can usually be done but there is a per-image flat rate fee associated with those types of extensive edits.

Why is an engagement session so important?
I include engagements in every collection because it is a chance for me to get to know your posing and photography preferences and for us to get comfortable working together. It is a practice run and makes everyone a lot more comfortable and confident on the wedding day. After all, do you really want a relative stranger showing up on the most important day of your life? It is so beneficial for us to get to know each other ahead of time and an engagement session is the perfect opportunity!

Session
We will get to know
each other at your engagement session.
It is the perfect chance
for you to see yourselves in my work, and for me
to get to know your preferences.
so...are we a good fit?
I take a limited number of weddings per year in order to ensure that I am working with couples I can connect with, so that I am able to provide the same personalized experience to each and every client. That said, you may love my photos, but my shooting style is not for everyone.
Here are some things that I have been known to ask of my clients in order to get that "perfect shot":

-
Trust me. I promise I have a plan. Take risks and go on adventures with me. Also, know that what looks best in camera isn't always what you see with your naked eye and trust me to find the best locations and the best light. Sometimes you are going to think I am crazy, but if you like unique artistic photos, you gotta take some risks :)
-
Be kind. Be Bold. Be Yourself. Don't be afraid to show your emotions or be a little extra for photos (translation: go big or go home with your outfit choices haha)
-
Let me use the golden light. I can shoot anywhere, in any light, but if you want the glowy golden light or the vibrant sky, understand that only happens at certain times of day. Many of the most epic and dramatic shots you see in my work happen during golden hour, sunset and sunrise, or after dark during the reception. I would never ask you to sacrifice your wedding day experience for photos but if you and I plan your timeline carefully we should have no issue carving out a 5-10 minute slot to catch that golden light! Let's take advantage of that amazing light and make some magic!
-
Don't be afraid to be a little silly or get a little dirty. Don't take yourselves or this experience too seriously- it will be fun if you let it be, I promise.
-
Value artistry and creativity. I need a little artistic freedom to make that magic happen :)
-
Value love, people and moments (over stuff and minor details). If you focus on what matters: your loved ones and all of the beautiful moments unfolding, then that positive energy will shine through in your photos.
